We have a group of very capable parishioners who invite anyone who would like to know more about the Christian and Catholic Faith to meet together with them on a THURSDAY evening 7.30pm to 9pm in the Church Lady Chapel. They begin in September 2015.
The aim of the programme ( Journey in Faith) is to furnish those attending with the knowledge to make a decision about how they would like to progress, be that moving on to become a Catholic, either the following Easter or to go their own way knowingmore about the Church and our Parish.
There is no expectation, that if you attend the course, you should then become a member of the Church. There is no expectation on anyone attending to say anything or to ask questions, but if you do, the team will endeavour to ensure that the information you require is given to you.
How the Journey developes
The course from September to the First Sunday of Advent focuses on a general over view of the Christian Faith, the Bible, God, Creation and Jesus Christ. During this time, you will also be given a tour of the Church and also given an overview of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Don't worry, you are not going to have to take notes and you will not be tested on what you have been told!
Rite of Acceptance: On the First Sunday of Advent those who wish to be Baptised or Received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church the following Easter are 'accepted' by the Church and they 'accept' that they are willing to be a catechumen and continue their learning of the Catholic Faith. This is a formal step in becoming a member of the Church.
The Journey in Faith programme moves up a gear after the Rite of Acceptance, with input on what Catholic's believe and are obliged to do. There will be sessions on the 7 Sacraments, The Mass, and the different Liturgical Season of the Church.
Rite of Election: This takes place on the Saturday before the First Sunday of Lent. It takes place in the Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul, Clifton. Those who are to be Baptised as adults at the following Easter, sign the Book of the Elect and are greeted by Bishop Declan Lang, the Bishop of Clifton. Those who have been Baptised in another Christian Church and would like to be c, also sign the `the Book of the Elect' and are greeted by Bishop Declan,
The Scrutinities: On some of the Sundays of Lent, the catechumens will be presented with a copy of the Nicene / Apostes Creed and also the Our Father.
EASTER VIGIL: assuming the catechumen still wishes to, they will be Baptised or received into full Communion with the Catholic Church, this will take place during the Easter Vigil. In this service they will receive Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion.
