Mental Illness Support at Holy Family Catholic Church Patchway

If you or someone you know is dealing with mental illness, you don’t have to go it alone. Our church sees mental health as part of overall wellbeing, and we’ve built simple ways for anyone to find help, friendship, and hope.

First, know that talking about feelings is okay here. You can drop into our weekly Faith & Wellness session, a relaxed group where people share what’s on their mind. No sermons, no judgment—just real conversations over tea. It’s a low‑key space to hear that others face similar struggles and to learn coping tips that work in everyday life.

Why Community Matters

When you’re surrounded by caring people, the weight of anxiety or depression can feel lighter. Studies show that social connection can improve mood as much as medication for some conditions. That’s why we focus on building relationships, not just offering information.

Our volunteers run a buddy system: a church member signs up to check in with you once a week, either by phone or a quick walk. It’s a simple habit that keeps you linked to a friendly face. If you’re new to the area, the buddy can also point you to local mental health clinics, counselling services, or crisis hotlines.

We partner with a few trusted mental‑health charities, like the ones highlighted in our “Best Charity for Mental Health” post. When you donate or volunteer with them, you’re extending the church’s care network beyond our walls.

How You Can Help

Getting involved is easier than you think. Here are three quick ways to make a difference:

  1. Join a support group. Our Mindful Moments circle meets every Thursday at 7 pm. Bring a cup of coffee and a willingness to listen.
  2. Volunteer for outreach. We deliver care packages to local shelters. You’ll learn what items truly help and avoid the common mistakes many well‑meaning donors make.
  3. Share a skill. If you’re a counsellor, teacher, or just good at budgeting, offer a short workshop. Practical life skills reduce stress and give people tools to manage their mental health.

Even a small act—like inviting a neighbour for a walk—can break isolation. Our church bulletin posts upcoming events, so you can pick what fits your schedule.

Remember, seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign you care about yourself enough to take the next step. Whether you’re looking for a listening ear, a resource list, or a way to give back, Holy Family Catholic Church is here to walk beside you.

Feel free to swing by the parish office during the day for a chat, or email us with any questions. We’ve got printed flyers with local mental‑health contacts, and we’re happy to add you to our email list for updates on new support groups.

Together, we can create a community where mental illness is met with empathy, practical help, and hope.
